SUZUKI VIOLIN FALL WORKSHOP

Join us for a weekend of group classes, individual lessons, a beginner class & a teen group class with master clinicians for Suzuki students ages 3-18.



WORKSHOP REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS:

This is a new a Workshop registration format from our new website. Here are the steps needed to register for the 2019 MTSA Fall Suzuki Workshop.

  1. Join/Renew 2019-2020 MTSA membership to receive a 20% coupon code for the Saturday Workshop tuition or Pre-Twinkle/Twinkle Beginner Class.
  2. Register for the Saturday MTSA Fall Workshop *required to register for additional classes.
  3. Workshop students will receive a free t-shirt with registration until the September 14, 2019 deadline. Additional t-shirts may be purchased for $15 with Saturday registration ($12 at checkout with 20% coupon code). 
  4. Register (separate registrations) for Masterclass Lessons &/or the Advanced Teen Group Class. The 20% coupon code does not apply to additional classes.
  5. Register (separate registration) for the Pre-Twinkle/Twinkle Beginner Class. MTSA members also receive the 20% coupon code. *Saturday Fall Workshop registration is not required.

T-SHIRTS: Workshop participants will receive a 2019 Workshop T-shirt (sizes selected during registration). Additional T-shirts may also be purchased ($15) during registration. The T-shirt order deadline is September 14, 2019.

SATURDAY WORKSHOP TUITION: $150 for non members, $120 for MTSA members.  *MTSA ASSOCIATE MEMBERS RECEIVE A 20% COUPON CODE – FOUR GROUP CLASSES (including a Fiddle Class), CLINICIAN/PARENT Q & A, KID ZONE & FINAL CONCERT!

MASTERCLASS LESSONS: $35 - 20 minute lesson; 2 lessons max per student  (first come, first served). Students and Parents are encouraged to stay for the entire lesson hour. Enrollment in Saturday Workshop is required. 

PRE-TWINKLE/TWINKLE BEGINNING CLASSES: $80  Students will also join Dr. Durbin’s Saturday Workshop Book 1 Group Class at 2:30pm in the SCA Theater, as well as present a Pre-Twinkle/Early Bk 1 demonstration on the Final Workshop Concert at 3:45.

ADVANCED TEEN GROUP CLASS / PIZZA PARTY: $35 (pizza included). This class may be added, in addition to the max 2 Masterclass lessons. Enrollment in the Saturday Workshop is required.                                                                             

The special piece, LIBERTANGO by Piazzolla and Suzuki advanced pieces (Bks 5-8) will be rehearsed in this class, to be performed at the Final Workshop Concert on Saturday at 3:45.

***All Students must be accompanied by a parent to Master Class lessons and Workshop classes. All siblings, family &/or guests are the responsibility of the registered parent at all times during Workshop lessons, classes & Final Concert.

TEACHER OBSERVATIONS: Free to current MTSA Teacher Members. The Workshop weekend includes unlimited observations, Friday Night Pizza Party, Saturday Clinician’s Luncheon & the Sunday Teacher Enrichment Seminar with Dr. Terry Durbin.

 7:00 – 8:30pm…..check-in 30 minutes prior to lesson time. Location – St. Cecilia Academy, 4210 Harding Rd, Nashville, TN 37205Repertory list: “LIBERTANGO” by Piazzolla for 3 violins, piano, bass & percussion (check with your individual teacher about music), plus Suzuki Workshop pieces from Books 5-8 will be rehearsed. Enrollment in the Saturday Workshop is required to participate in this event.

1:30pm EDMUND SPRUNGER PARENT TALK “Ideas for Successful Practice”, SCA Theater.   KIDS ZONE –  supervised activities provided in SCA courtyard (weather permitting) or SCA GYM, Rm 401 during this informative parent lecture. 

2:30pm GROUP CLASSES ***The Friday PRE-TWINKLE/EARLY BK 1 CLASS joins Dr. Terry Durbin’s Group Class in the SCA Theater.

3:45pm FINAL WORKSHOP CONCERT (including a Pre-Twinkle/Twinklers presentation).

SPECIAL PIECE (Advanced Bk 4+):   

  • LIBERTANGO by Piazzolla for 3 violins. Dr. Durbin’s ADVANCED TEEN GROUP CLASS will rehearse “LIBERTANGO”, plus advanced Suzuki Bks 5-8 pieces. *** Teachers, please distribute the 3 parts of “LIBERTANGO” evenly within your studio ***

FIDDLE TUNES (memorize, if possible): 

  • Beginner (Bk 1)/Intermediate (Bk 2+) – “BUFFALO GALS” (with verses) from “Fiddle & Song, Bk 1: A Sequenced Guide to American Fiddling" by Crystal Plohman Wiegman (available through Shar or Amazon). Note to Teachers: Buffalo Gals Tune is for students in Suzuki Bk 1 who are comfortable playing Song of the Wind/Go Tell A. Rhody or higher. The Advanced Fiddle Break & Harmony is for student in Suzuki Bks 2 & up. Encourage all your students to learn & sing the words to all the verses.  
  • Advanced (Bk 4+) – “JERUSALEM’S RIDGE” arranged by Crystal Plohman Wiegman.

 The special piece & advanced fiddle music was chosen and distributed to teacher members in February 2019. Teacher members should contact secretary@middletnsuzuki.org if music is still needed.
