Shinichi Suzuki was born on October 17, 1898, and this year will mark his 126th birthday!
Celebrate with us on Sunday 10/20 from 5–8:30pm with a birthday party and Violin masterclass with noted clinician Teri Einfeldt at the Blair School of Music!
Suzuki Birthday Party Schedule:
5:00 – 6:30 p.m. Early-books masterclass (1,2)*
6:30 – 7:00 p.m. Birthday party with cake!!
7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Upper-books masterclass (3+)*
5 students will be selected each for the lower-book and upper-book masterclass sessions.
* Exact book levels subject to balancing based on applications.
Registration/Application:
All MTSA members are welcome to attend the birthday party and observe the masterclass free of charge. (no need to register)
To play for the masterclass, violinists will submit a video recording of their performance of the piece they wish to play for the masterclass. It may be Suzuki or non-Suzuki repertoire. Audition videos do not require piano accompaniment and will be reviewed by a neutral adjudicator. 5 students will be picked for each masterclass.
There is a $10 fee to audition and have your tape reviewed for a chance to play.
Schedule:
Registration (including fee and video) must be received by Sunday, October 6, 2024 (@ 11:59pm).
Students selected to play will be announced on or before Sunday, October 13.
Audition Video:
Videos should be uploaded to YouTube and the privacy marked as "unlisted". Unlisted videos can only be viewed by people with the direct URL link to the video and are not available to be found by searching. You will then copy and paste the URL link of your video into the registration form. Please check the link by pasting it into a new browser window to make sure you did everything correctly.
Students wishing to play should register for this event by clicking the link at left, pay the fee, and submit their registration form, including the URL to your video for consideration.
Piano
MTSA will provide a pianist for the masterclass free of charge. Students selected my also choose to bring their own pianist. There will be no rehearsal with the pianist in advance.
Meet the Clinician: Teri Einfeldt
Teri Einfeldt is the co-chair of the String department at the University of Hartford’s Hartt Community Division and adjunct professor at The Hartt School. A Suzuki Association of the Americas registered teacher trainer, Teri is a frequent clinician at workshops and institutes throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. She has participated and presented at several SAA conferences as well as lecturing at CT–ASTA conventions. In addition, she has taught at the Pan-Pacific Suzuki Conference in Sydney, Australia, the 14th Suzuki World Conference in Turin, Italy and the 16th Suzuki World Conference in Matsumoto. Japan. She has also presented at both International Teacher Trainer Conferences in Boston and Madrid. She appeared as a guest lecturer at the Juilliard School for the Starling DeLay Symposium in June 2011. She is the former assistant concertmistress of the Northeast Pennsylvania Philharmonic and Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, and performs frequently with the Hartford Symphony. Teri is a past board chair of the SAA as well as past chair of both the Teacher Development Advisory Committee and the Suzuki Principles in Action committee She maintains a studio of 23 Suzuki students, ages 4–18, at the Hartt School Community Division.

On Sundays, parking in the West Garage is free. Enter from Children's Way between 24th and 25th, and park anywhere you like.
Enter the Blair School of Music through the front doors. The school is open to the public but on weekends the doors are locked. Someone will let you in.
Go straight forward from the entrance, past Turner Hall and the Deans' Portraits, follow the hallway left, and proceed to the end of the hall. Choral Hall is on the right (do not proceed through the fire doors on the left).
